Xiaomi launches Mi Box 4S Pro in China with 8K video playback support

Xiaomi announced the upgraded version or rather the successor of its Mi Box 4 Pro, as Mi Box 4S Pro in China. This TV setup box will let users stream content from various apps or connect offline content via USB. While it has most of the specifications same as its predecessor, the new box now supports 8K video playback and has an updated HDMI standard as notable features.

While everyone thinks Xiaomi to operate in smartphone and smart wearables market, it’s having a wide range of smart products to equip our homes. The Chinese company OEM has been into making television setup boxes since long back, and now announced an upgraded version of its current latest, Mi Box 4 Pro.

The new box, named as Mi Box 4S Pro, will have all the specifications same as its predecessor but adds some notable features like support to 8K video decoding. Also, the maker has upgraded the HDMI standard to 2.1, which is even better for the latest hardware. Besides streaming content from OTT apps, users can also hook-up into the USB port to stream offline stored content.

This box has an AMLogic Cortex-A53 chip, which comes with Mali-450 integrated GPU generally. While it’s unsure how well this combination can smoothen the high-end 8K playback at 30fps, they should do well with 4K decoding at least. Further, it’s reported to run on MIUI for TV OS and may come with Android OS if launched for the foreign markets.

But as Xiaomi mentioned that it has no plans for launching it outside China, it remains with MIUI only. Further, it has 2GB of RAM and 16GB of ROM, which is of additional 8GB of storage bump than its predecessor. Finally, it’s priced at ¥399 and is up for pre-orders in China already.
