Nokia is one of the few players in the smartphone space that care about passing lasted software updates to older and mid-range handsets. The Finland based company is all set to roll out Android 11 stable update to Nokia 8.1 and Nokia 5.3, as both these handsets were seen tested on GeekBench recently.
Nokia 5.3 and Nokia 8.1 getting Android 11 update
While launching phones today with Android 11 out-of-the-box is important, passing the same latest update to older devices is equally important. This norm was followed by very few OEMs like Samsung, OnePlus, Xiaomi and Nokia. While OnePlus and Samsung prioritise their premium handsets for this, Xiaomi and Nokia care about their mid-range smartphones too.
This statement can be supported firmly as Xiaomi has released a list of older and mid-range smartphones that will get Android 11 based MIUI update, and Nokia, even if late, is passing Android 11 update gradually. The HMD Global owned brand has recently pushed Android 11 update for Nokia 8.3 5G handset and is now about to do the same for Nokia 8.1 and Nokia 5.3 phones.
Both these handsets were spotted in GeekBench 5 running on Android 11 OS, and showing their respective single-core and multi-core benchmark scores. Since Nokia doesn’t have much of bloatware, it can push whatever the latest Android update that Google passes to its devices.
OEMs laying their proprietary bloatware have to check the compatibility of this OS with the Android 11 base, so as not to create and additional headaches to the users in the form of bugs. Many OEMs are waiting for the same reason, to check compatibility, and release them without any errors.
