Xiaomi sub-brand Redmi has launched its new budget smartphone in India. Named as Redmi 9, the phone is the successor of Redmi 8 which was launched last year. This launch comes after a month of Redmi 9 Prime launch in the country, the same device known as Redmi 9 in global markets.
Xiaomi has made its Redmi series of smartphones a bit confusing by launching a bunch of phones with nearly the same nomenclature viz. Redmi 9, Redmi 9 Prime, Redmi 9C.
The newly launched Redmi 9 is quite similar to the Redmi 9C which was unveiled in Malaysia earlier this June.
Redmi 9 Specifications
Redmi 9 features a massive 6.53-inch HD+ display with an 20:9 aspect ratio. It is powered by MediaTek Helio G35 octa-core processor with HyperEngine Performance Optimization for gaming.
It comes with a dual-camera setup where a 13-megapixel is the primary sensor and a 2-megapixel as depth sensor.
Upfront, Redmi 9 has a standard 5-megapixel front camera for selfies. This camera has features like AI selfie, AI scene detection, portrait mode, and pro mode.
The phone is available in two different storage variants with a single 4GB RAM option paired with 64GB or 128GB in-built storage which can be further extended up to 512GB through a dedicated slot.
Redmi 9 comes packed with a powerful 5,000mAh battery with support of 10W fast charging. The phone takes the charge through a microUSB port instead of USB Type-C which is a standard in the industry.
With the P2i coating, the phone becomes splash-proof. The connectivity options include dual SIM support, 4G VoLTE, VoWiFi, Bluetooth v5.0, GPS/ A-GPS, and a 3.5mm headphone jack.
Redmi 9 runs MIUI 12 based on Android 10 and has a rear-mounted fingerprint sensor.
