It’s been a while since Nubia hasn’t been revealing their new products. So, finally, Nubia is back with their new gaming mid-range phone for 2020 namely, Nubia Play. The China-based ZTE sub-brand has again taken a step forward in terms of specification. Well, will this make Nubia Play the best gaming mid-range phone for 2020? Let’s find out.
All New Nubia Play Specifications and Features
After unveiling their new brand logo and the promise to bring the most affordable gaming phone with the best specifications possible, the company brought Nubia Play.
The attractive feature of the device is AMOLED display with 144Hz of refresh rate which makes Nubia Play the second device after the Nubia Red Magic 5G to feature a display of such a high refresh rate.
The device also features ICE2.5 rack-mounted liquid cooling system with a 61mm large liquid cooling tube for a sustained load on the GPU. However, it lacks a 3.5mm audio jack.
Design
In terms of the design, the phone has been designed the same as the Nubia Red Magic 5G but, Nubia Play has some shiny back panel and comes in Black, White, and Sea Blue color editions.

Display
Getting to the front, it has a bigger 6.65-inches FHD+ AMOLED display with an aspect ratio of 19.5:9 and resolution of 1080 x 2340 pixels at 398 ppi which supports a whopping 144Hz refresh rate and a 240Hz touch rate as well. The phone comes with a fingerprint sensor under the display.

Processor
Talking about the power, Nubia Play is powered by the powerful mid-range 5G processor from Qualcomm, the Snapdragon 765G processor which is one step down processor from the flagship Snapdragon 865G processor.
The octa-core configuration goes as 1×2.4 GHz, 1×2.2 GHz, and 6×1.8 GHz. For improved graphic experience, Nubia Play incorporates Adreno 620 GPU on board.
Camera
On the back, Nubia Play features a quad-camera camera setup of 48-megapixel Sony IMX 586 sensor – f/1.8 aperture with an 8-megapixel ultra-wide sensor – f/2.2 aperture and 2-megapixel depth – f/2.4 aperture and 2-megapixel macro camera – f/2.4 aperture, respectively. It can record videos of 1080p at 30fps and 2160p at 30/60fps.
On the front, the phone is stuffed with a 12-megapixel selfie shooter which is housed on a small bezel on the top and can record videos of 1080p at 30fps.
RAM and Storage
Nubia Play comes in three variants – 6GB RAM + 128GB storage, 8GB RAM + 128 GB storage, and 8GB RAM + 256 GB storage. Sadly, it comes with the older UFS 2.1 based storage support.
Gaming-centric Feature
To take gaming to the next level, Nubia Play comes with the latest 61mm large liquid cooling system with graphite gel and copper foil which is capable enough to drop the temperature by 16 degrees Celsius.
Battery
As the phone comes with such a huge display with 144Hz refresh rate and 5G capability which is more than enough to suck the battery faster. However, Nubia has focused on this issue and they have come up with a massive 5100 mAh battery which also supports 30W wired fast charging.
So, in terms of battery, you won’t be facing any issues.
UI and Software
Nubia Play comes with the latest gaming-centric Nubia 8.0 skin on top of Android 10.

Price
Nubia’s latest flagship Red Magic 5G is already available for purchase worldwide for prices starting at $579, which is pretty cheap if compared to other devices with the same specifications.
However, Nubia Play has been priced attractively. In China, the base variant which comes with 6GB of RAM and 128 of Storage costs about 2,399 yuan (approx. $339).
And, the mid variant which comes with 8GB of RAM and 128GB storage costs about 2,699 yuan (approx. $381), and the top variant which comes with 8GB of RAM and double Storage of 256 GB costs about 2,999 yuan (approx. $424).
Here Nubia Play takes an edge, with all these premium features, Nubia has managed to reduce down the price with all these premium features.
