Honor, the Huawei’s sub-brand which made its own mark a long back, has now unveiled two new phones. Named Honor Play 4 and Play 4 Pro, these handsets support 5G and have astonishing cameras. There’s even a variant that has an Infrared Sensor embedded in it to test your body temperature, which is useful in these hard times of COVID-19. Besides these special features, here’s what they got;
Honor Play 4
The standard variant has a massive 6.81″ FHD+ display, which is of IPS LCD with 1080×2400 resolution. It has a punch-hole design and supports the in-display fingerprint sensor. Moving to inner hardware, there’s a Dimensity 800 CPU, a 7nm 5G chip from MediaTek that is covered by a massive 991mm² vapor chamber for cooling. It’s coupled with Mali G57 MC4 GPU for fair performances from any game.
It runs on Magic UI 3.1 based on Android 10 and has quad rear camera setup. It has a 64-megapixel (f/1.89) primary sensor, followed by an 8-megapixel (f/2.2) wide-angle lens, and a pair of 2-megapixel sensors with f/2.4 lenses from the depth and macro shots. Upfront, there is a 16-megapixel (f/2.0) camera sensor housed in punch-hole design.
The handset is powered by a 4300mAh battery with 22.5W fast charging, which the company claims to juice up to 70% in just 30 minutes! It has all the required connectivities as Bluetooth 5.1, GPS, USB Type-C, headphone jack and comes with 6GB or 8GB of RAM and 128GB of onboard storage. This can be further expanded to 512GB using the microSD.
Honor Play 4 Pro
The Pro variant strips down in some cases but is more appealing than its counterpart. It has a 6.5″ IPS LCD with 1080×2400 FHD+ resolution and has an in-display fingerprint sensor as usual. It ha a capsule-cut display design, which houses dual front cameras. And like its counterpart Play 4, it’s of 20:9 aspect ratio.
Running on Magic UI 3.1 based on Android 10, it has a Kirin 990 SoC, which of 7nm process from HiSilicon. It’s coupled with Mali G76 MP16 GPU and has just two rear cameras. These are, a 40-megapixel (f/1.8) primary lens which is of Sony IMX600 sensor that takes wide-angle shots, and an 8-megapixel (f/2.4) telephoto lens.
Upfront, there’s a dual-lens of 32-megapixel (f/2.0) sensor for wide-angle shots and an 8-megapixel sensor as ultra-wide angular. These are capable of 3x optical zoom, a 5x hybrid and up to 30x digital zoom. They also support OIS for steady video recording.
While it shares most of the connectivities its counterpart has, it misses audio jack and external slots for additional storage! This is typical. Users have to suffice themselves with 8GB RAM and the 128GB onboard storage given. But, it adds an NFC support and has 4200mAh battery with 44W fast charging support.
A thing to note here is, as per GSM Arena, these handsets are reported ship without Google Play Services. Thus, no Google apps which make most of the works harder. But, there are no reports from other media houses. We shall wait some more time to clear this. Further, there’s an Infrared Sensor (IR) variant of the Honor Play 4 Pro, which comes with an IR sensor to detect temperatures!
