Google’s Pixel handsets are one of a kind. They’re simply made without following much of a trend and provides the best experience even with mediocre specs. While this being the case till date, Google learned that it has to gear up ramping new models with better specs irrespective of its taste, it intends to remain in the market. And as a result of this is the latest handset – Pixel 4a.
Pixel 4a is a perfectly balanced smartphone with reasonable specs to its price tag. The new phone joins the latest 4-series line-up and placed alongside Pixel 4 and Pixel 4 XL. Though these are impressive than now launched Pixel 4a, the Model 4 a has its stance. Here’s how;
Google Pixel 4a Specifications
Display
Starting with the display, Pixel 4a has a 5.81″ OLED screen with 1080 × 2340p resolution, HDR 10 and an Always-on-display. It’s protected by Gorilla Glass 3 and had a plastic back and frame. For the first time, it switches to a punch-hole design and sports volume and power keys on the right side. With 19.5:9 aspect ratio, it has 443ppi density and 83.3% screen-to-body ratio.
OS and Chipset
It runs on Android 10 pure OS, and since produced by Google, it’s given the primary importance when a new software update is rolled out. Under the hood, it has the Snapdragon’s 730G SoC, which is an octa-core processor and comes with Adreno 618 GPU. It posses two Kyro 470 Gold cores clocking at 2.2GHz and six Kyro 470 Silver cores clocking at 1.8GHz. This gives a balance between power consumption and productivity, as it shares accordingly.
Storage and Cameras
As in other Pixels, it has no slot for expanding storage and comes with UFS 2.1 onboard storage of up to 128GB with 6GB of RAM. Even when the world’s racing with camera lens count, Google restricted the latest Pixel to just a single rear camera, which is of 12.2-megapixel with f/1.7 aperture. This has the PDAF sensor which also supports OIS for stable 4K recording in 30fps.
Upfront, it has an 8-megapixel wide-angle sensor with f/2.0 aperture, which can record 1080p videos at 30fps. It’s got the stereo speakers firing front, and surprisingly, comes with a 3.5mm audio jack! Whereas its counterparts, Pixel 4 and Pixel 4 XL ditches this port. On the connectivity side, it has 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac dual-band Wi-Fi, NFC, Bluetooth 5.1 GPS and a USB 3.1 Type-C port.
Other Specifications
With fingerprint sensor given at rear, it has other sensors like compass, accelerometer, gyroscope and barometer. Finally, it’s got a 3140mAh battery with 18W fast charging support. This is slightly better than the regular Pixel 4 and nearer to Pixel 4 XL’s capacity.
Google Pixel 4A Price and Availability
The new Pixel 4 will be coming in Just Black color and is priced at $349 (Rs. 26,290) for its sole 6GB + 128GB variant. Though it seemed okay with the pricing, the availability becomes an issue here. Google has just announced that it has completely sold out the Pixel 4 and Pixel 4 XL handsets in the US.
This happened just after nine months of their release, and has no plans to produce further! Thus, you have to buy from offline retailers in case they have the stock. Moreover, Google doesn’t just supply their Pixel devices to all countries like other OEMs, but to select countries like Australia, US and a few European countries.
Talking about the Pixel 4a, it’s going to be available on even fewer nations. Well, it’s until the company launches the new lineup, Pixel 5 series. This is scheduled sometime later this year and will be the first series to sport 5G from Google.
