Andy Rubin, the man who founded the most famous operating system Android, is set to shut down his smartphone company Essential.
Essential was founded in 2015 and within 2 years, it developed the first smartphone Essential PH-1.
Essential announced the shut down through its website.
” Despite our best efforts, we’ve now taken Gem as far as we can and regrettably have no clear path to deliver it to customers. Given this, we have made the difficult decision to cease operations and shutdown Essential. ” – the official statement of the company.
The company saw the poorest sales of its smartphones and thus decided to shut the shop.
Essential was in the process of developing another smartphone “Project Gem” which was teased by Andy Rubin in October, 2019.
The company was once valued at $1 billion and raised to the tune of $330 million till date.
